Hot People: CIARAN HAS A 'HOT DATE' WITH SIZZLER LARA CROFT; New film role for rising Irish star.

Byline: Beautiful By BRENDA O'NEILL
IRISH actor Ciaran Hinds has landed his most sizzling role yet - stuck in the Greek heat with hot movie babe Angelina Jolie.

The film, to be released in the summer, sees Hinds playing the part of Doctor Jonathan Reece in Tomb Raider sequel The Cradle of Life.

It's a long way from his first acting job as the back end of a horse in a Cinderella pantomime.

Now after years swashbuckling around in costume dramas, the broody 50-year-old has hit the big time in Hollywood.

He received critical acclaim for his role with Tom Hanks in Road to Perdition and is now in talks with Brad Pitt about a blockbuster based on Homer's (not Simpson) Iliad.

He also stars in a movie alongside Cate Blanchett about murdered Irish reporter Veronica Guerin.

The dashingly handsome Hinds is currently on location in Greece filming with Jolie.

But it is the rocky landscape of Ireland's own Cushendun that evoke happiest memories for the star.

The youngest of five, Hinds grew up in north Belfast where his mother Moya encouraged his acting ability.

The RADA-trained thespian said in an interview: "Dad wanted me to follow him into medicine but I couldn't stand blood and was hopeless at science at school.

"I was introduced to the world of acting by my mother, Moya, who was an amateur actress.

"I did a lot of Irish dancing as a child: Irish dance drama, we call it, like flamenco but only half as exciting or sexy.

"As children, we used to spend our summer holidays at Cushendall on the beautiful Antrim coast.

"The beach there is rocky and dramatic which I like, while on the other side is Cushendun with its nice swimming beach, surrounded by the glens and mountains - so we had the best of both worlds.

"The Cushendall area is so beautiful and had such happy memories for my parents, they actually retired there."

Married to Vietnamese-born Helene, the couple have a daughter Aoife.
